American minister and activist, He was born on January 15, 1929, Atlanta, GA. At 15, he went to Morehouse college in Atlanta. King graduated in 1948. He received a doctorate from Boston University in 1955. When Martin was in Boston, he met Coretta Scott. They got married in Boston 1953, then had four children. King had his “I have a dream” speech, on August 28, 1963, on the steps on Lincoln memorial. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. "Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.: Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. King ended his speech with “We are free at last” Martin Luther King Jr. He was named after Protestant reformer Martin Luther. King was also arrested 29 times, mostly due to trumped-up charges. Dr. Emil A. King survived an assassination a decade before died. He led the Civil Rights movement into the United States, he used peaceful, nonviolent protests to try and get equal rights for African Americans. Although because of this, it is why James Earl Ray shot Martin King on April 4, 1968, as he was standing on the balcony in Memphis, Tennessee. King died an hour later at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Although because of King’s death, many riots started across the United States. Although some of the biggest riots happened in Washington D.C., Chicago, and Kansas City.
