Earthquake in Japan

On Monday, January 1st, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit central Japan at 4;10pm. This

earthquake devastated families and communities, knocking down buildings and causing fires. The earthquake triggered a tsunami warning up the coast of Eastern Japan. The 7.5 caused the death of 6 people in Ishikawa, as well as dozens of injuries all through the affected areas. Ishikawa began seeing small tsunami waves just 11 minutes after the earthquake struck, no damage was caused by the waves. More than 1,4000 passengers on high speed trains were left stuck for 11 hours. Signs inside trains were left hanging and grocery store shelves and items were left all over stores. According to the Hokuriku power company, over 32,500 homes in Ishikawa were left without power. The earthquake left large aftershocks of 6.2, 5.2, and 5.6 magnitudes. Since Monday there have been over 31 aftershocks, which may continue for several weeks.
